Religious Education Department

Have you thought about sharing your faith by teaching our parish children and youth about our Catholic Faith? Spend an hour with your child and several of their church friends. If interested in volunteering Please contact Dana Gaspar, Director of Religious Education, at 620-356-3994, or mqopdre@pld.com

Our Religious Education Program fosters spiritual growth in parishioners of all ages. The program requires the support of many volunteers to serve as catechists and aides to sustain and enrich the life of faith in our community.

Its chief and constant commitment is to provide:

  • Religious Education Classes in English for children in 1st grade and 3rd grade through 8th grade and Senior high on Wednesday evenings. Sunday mornings are 2nd Grade 1st Communion, 9th grade Confirmation-Prep and 10th grade Confirmation. Classes are from September through May with normal holiday observances.
  • Sacramental Programs prepare children, with the participation of their families, to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for the first time, and to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation for the strengthning of Faith.

The RCIA, or Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, is our parish community's welcoming outreach to anyone whose faith journey has caused them to investigate the beliefs of the Catholic Church and we welcome anyone who might wish to join us in worship and communion. The RCIA provides no-obligation inquiry sessions for interested adults to explore the basic tenets of our faith. For those who choose to continue, the RCIA offers a structure for developing a deeper faith and a confident understanding of Catholic beliefs.

The RCIA program is designed for

  • Non-baptized adults seeking membership in the Christian community
  • Adults baptized in other Christian communities who seek full communion with the Roman Catholic Church
  • Adults baptized as Catholics, but never catechized or never confirmed
  • Catholics returning after a significant period of separation

A modified RCIA program is also available for children above the age of six who have not yet received Baptism and whose parents, grandparents, or other family members will be there to support them in their journey of faith.
